Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, Wollomombi, New South Wales 2350

View on map
Wollomombi Falls is a must‑see New England High Country natural wonder. As the second‑highest waterfall in Australia, it plunges an impressive 220 metres from a gently rolling plateau into the dramatic depths of Wollomombi Gorge, deep within Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. After its breathtaking descent, the Wollomombi River winds quietly away below, a striking contrast to the power of the falls above. The best views are from Wollomombi Lookout, located on the western side of the falls and just a 30‑minute drive from Armidale along the iconic Waterfall Way. On a clear afternoon, the setting sun casts a warm glow across the cliffs and cascading water, often tinting the rock faces pink. A nearby picnic area makes it an ideal spot for a relaxed afternoon or early evening meal surrounded by nature. For those keen to explore further, the Chandler Walking Track offers an easy 2.5‑kilometre walk along the ridge, bringing you closer to this spectacular landscape.
