UNE Discovery: Science Meets Art (K-10)

Join us for a school holiday adventure at NERAM where art meets nature!

Have you ever wondered how scientists record their findings in nature and draw things that are no longer alive, like a dinosaur? These school holidays you can find out in this exciting hands-on workshop combining art, science and problem solving! Enjoy a guided tour of the incredible DistoMorph exhibition by Brisbane-based artist Svenja that showcases striking three-dimensional sculptures and textile art inspired by the natural world. Then, join UNE Discovery team to explore how art and science together can tell us about the past, present and future.

You will get to: explore Paleo art through drawing an extinct animal; investigate a local insect; engage with design thinking to plan life on Mars; practice skills important to scientific observation; find out how art is vital in science.

Following the hands-on workshop led by UNE Discovery, children will join NERAM’s Education Officer for a guided exploration of The Neighbour at the Gate. Through colourful installations, fascinating objects and thought-provoking artworks, young visitors will discover stories about home, family, belonging and community while engaging their curiosity, imagination and creativity. Perfect for curious kids who love nature and are keen to have a go!

Session 1: 10.30-11.45am; Session 2: 12:00-1:15pm – Parents are welcome to stay. Bookings essential.
