What Is Steampunk?

Steampunk is what happens when Victorian elegance collides with mad science, airship daydreams,
and a refusal to obey the laws of physics (or fashion). It is a world where goggles are formal wear, top hats have built-in telescopes, and cupboards might hide time machines. Inspired by the likes of Jules Verne and HG Wells, steampunk re-imagines history with a twist – fusing the aesthetics of the 1800s with the inventions no one ever dared to build (until now). At Steampunk New England, it’s more than a genre—it’s a living, breathing, gear-turning adventure. For one unforgettable weekend, the Armidale Showgrounds become a retro-futuristic wonderland filled with: Clockwork contraptions; Victorian oddities; Tea duels and airship pirates; Inventors, artists, alchemists, time travellers, and curious cats in top hats. No modern nonsense – just brass, lace, and adventure.
