The scheduled visit may be changed or cancelled if conditions on the day are likely to affect the excursion. For more information and to register to join the group\, phone Shirley on 0458 260 937 or email shrlycook@gmail.com. \nNewcomers are always welcome\, but please notify our leader\, Dr Stephen Debus (sdebus@une.edu.au) preferably a day or two prior to the excursion to let him know you are coming. \nFrom Armidale\, travel north to Guyra on New England Highway and then follow Tingha Road 55 kilometres north-west to Tingha. Follow New Valley Road (Ruby Street) south for 700 metres before turning right onto Kempton Road. Follow Kempton Road for three kilometres before continuing straight ahead on what becomes Long Gully Road\, a further two kilometres will bring you to a carpark adjacent to Long Creek. Drive or walk a further 300 metres south along the road to a pedestrian gate in the fence\, from here follow the signs for 750 metres to the site itself. There will be no excursion on 5 April (Easter Sunday). \nThis is an Aboriginal Sacred Site\, therefore\, with respect\, no photographs of the Stonewoman\, please.

The studio from her Paddington home is now re-created at the Tweed Regional Gallery in Murwillumbah. \nAnne Arbens’ early career was in biotechnology and business. She is now pursuing a PhD through a Dutch university. Anne has lectured in Australia\, the US\, in the UK and in Europe in both art history and business studies. \nDoors open 5.30pm.

SUMMARY:Lyrical Masterpieces @ the Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:In this special collaboration\, pianist Brieley Cutting and acclaimed violinist Doretta Balkizas present a recital centring on major classics from the French and German repertory. All masterworks on the program are linked by their glowing\, radiant sounds and uplifting moods. \nThe first part of the recital comes from France: Debussy’s shimmering Violin and Piano Sonata\, followed by Lili Boulanger’s delicately heart-warming Two Pieces and then Messiaen’s Theme and Variations\, which is built on a tender and lyrical idea consisting of a floating melody. \nThe second half of the program commences with an atmospheric Nocturne from Australian composer Margaret Sutherland\, offering a moment of poignant introspection. The recital then moves to Germany for Brahms’ Sonata No.1 in G major Op.78 for Violin and Piano. A Romantic masterpiece of exquisite beauty and lyricism\, the three movements of this work are interrelated\, and Brahms expertly allows the violin and piano parts to echo one another and intertwine whilst demanding virtuosity from both players. The final movement is known to transport its listeners\, as it did for Clara Schumann who wrote to the composer\, “…I wish that the last movement could accompany me in my journey from here to the next world.”
