SUMMARY:ArtsNational Lecture: "Is This the Real Life?..."
DESCRIPTION:Is This the Real Life? How writers and artists have challenged our perceptions of reality – Mary Sharp (UK) \nWhen Lucy goes through the wardrobe into Narnia\, when Harry Potter opens his letter and when Ned takes the red pill\, they all discover that the worlds they thought they knew are only part of the truth. From Plato onwards\, writers and artists have sought to create other worlds that inspire our imagination. \nMary now runs her own company Opening Up Literature which offers literature courses for adults including studies of Shakespeare and Creative Writing. Her most popular course is Telling Tales\, which explores how writers and artists have reinvented classical stories. She is a professional bridge teacher and lecturer. \nDoors open 5.30pm.

SUMMARY:The Dumb Waiter @ The Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Age guidance: 12+ \nThe Dumb Waiter\, by Nobel laureate Harold Pinter\, is coming to The Playhouse. This razor-sharp post-World War II comedy of menace depicts a world where humour opens the door and menace walks in. Two men wait in a basement room for instructions\, filling the time with tea\, football\, the newspaper\, and small irritations. In The Dumb Waiter\, language is never just small talk. It is a tool\, a shield\, a weapon. The pauses speak as loudly as the words. As messages begin arriving\, routine starts to fracture and the pressure climbs. Darkly funny\, tightly wound\, and unsettlingly familiar\, this modern classic turns the everyday into something dangerous and asks: what happens when a system demands obedience without explanation? Get ready to laugh and then suddenly feel the room change. \nLimited seating\, bookings recommended. \nBy Arrangement with ORiGiN™ Theatrical on behalf of Samuel French A Concord Theatricals Company

SUMMARY:Opera Australia: "Don Giovanni"
DESCRIPTION:NECOM is proud to present Opera Australia’s newest touring production of Don Giovanni for a once-only performance. \nIt is the last day of Don Giovanni’s life\, but he doesn’t know that.  For opera’s own Casanova\, it’s just another day of pleasure seeking.  Seducing a bride on her wedding day. Breaking into a woman’s bedroom in the dead of night. Killing her furious father. Even before the curtain rises\, Mozart reveals Don Giovanni’s fate.  An earth-shattering chord from the orchestra signals the gates of hell clanging open. The scoundrel’s debauched days are at an end. \n***Please note: Don Giovanni will be performed in Italian*** \nPatron Advice: Suitable for 16+ years; strong/coarse language; mature/adult themes; sexual references

SUMMARY:Central West Comedy @ Welder's Dog Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Claire Hooper is the least fun person she knows. She’s used to getting her dopamine from answering emails and getting places on time. But she is gonna do what it takes – joke t-shirts\, family glamping\, practical jokes\, birdwatching\, laser tag\, rock concerts – to become fun again. A rollercoaster of jokes from an adult who doesn’t want to die thinking; well at least I said no to everything. As seen on The Gala\, Have You Been Paying Attention and Claire Hooper’s House of Games. \nUsually described as a ‘New Zealand-born funnyman’\, Tony Martin has been pissfarting about in Australian comedy for the last 35 years. On TV\, he worked on ‘The D-Generation’\, ‘The Late Show’\, ‘The Panel’\, ‘Kath & Kim’\, ‘Thank God You’re Here’\, ‘Upper Middle Bogan’\, and the current hit ‘Have You Been Paying Attention?’  On radio\, he was one half of ‘Martin/Molloy’ and the creator of ‘Get This’. On film\, he wrote and directed ‘Bad Eggs’ and appeared in ‘Crackerjack’ and ‘The Castle’ (for nine seconds). He is the author of four books including the recent bestseller ‘Deadly Kerfuffle’. He co-created the award-winning podcasts ‘Childproof’ and ‘Sizzletown’ and since 2015 has performed with (ex-TISM singer) Damian Cowell’s Disco Machine. Oh\, and he’s been doing stand-up since 1990 and reckons he’s nearly got the hang of it.

SUMMARY:Musica Viva Concert - "Streeton Trio..."
DESCRIPTION:Streeton Trio – Women Who Dared \nBold\, brilliant women in chamber music. \nJoin the Streeton Trio for a powerful and inspiring evening celebrating the brilliance and resilience of women in music. This program shines a light on four extraordinary female composers who defied convention and left a lasting mark on the classical world. The concert opens with Fanny Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor (Germany)\, a passionate and lyrical masterpiece that rivals the works of her famous brother\, Felix. Despite societal barriers\, Fanny composed over 400 works\, proving that talent knows no gender. Kelly-Marie Murphy’s Give Me Phoenix Wings to Fly (Canada) soars with fiery intensity and breathtaking virtuosity\, symbolizing rebirth and transformation—a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin’s Spirit and the Maiden blends haunting beauty with raw energy\, drawing inspiration from folklore to tell a story of courage and resilience. Clara Schumann’s Trio in G minor\, Op. 17 (Germany) is testament to the child prodigy turned musical trailblazer. Clara balanced motherhood and a legendary career to create an enduring legacy as one of history’s greatest musicians. This concert celebrates women’s voices\, creativity\, and determination\, proving that the power of music—and the power of women—knows no bounds. \nProgramme: Fanny MENDELSSOHN (1805–1847)\, Piano Trio in D minor\, Op. 11 (1846–1847); Kelly-Marie MURPHY (b. 1964)\, Give Me Phoenix Wings to Fly (1997); Elena KATS-CHERNIN (b. 1957)\, Spirit and the Maiden (2004); Clara SCHUMANN (1819–1896)\, Piano Trio in G minor\, Op. 17 (1846).

SUMMARY:Kial Malone "Kids Again Tour" @ Alternate Root
DESCRIPTION:Kial Malone is an award-winning songwriter from Gundungurra Country\, in the Southern Tablelands of Australia. His southern Americana and Country influences are deeply rooted in his music and best showcased in his live show\, weaving storytelling throughout his slow tormenting ballads\, wailing harmonica\, and gut-punching acoustic guitar.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKial has established himself as one of Australia’s emerging independent artists\, supporting the likes Adam Newling\, Ash Grunwald\, Beddy Rays\, Phil Jamieson and The Smith Street Band. \nTo celebrate his latest release “Kids Again\,” Kial is heading out on the road for his biggest headline tour to date\, and bringing a few special mates along with him. Grab some friends and come along for a night of sad songs and (mostly true) stories. \nThe wonderful Zoe Rain will be supporting the show.
