“In the Shadow of Eden” @ The Playhouse

With music spanning 75 years and the vast landscapes of Australia and the United States, In the Shadow of Eden is an exploration of identity, belonging, and what it means to be human within the wonder that is our natural surroundings. The program takes us from the initial awakening of a child’s awareness, through abstract philosophising on the nature of reality (or was that the reality of nature?) to an urgent search for self-identity, culminating in a final cry out in warning for our future, if we don’t learn the lessons of our past. Featuring captivating music by some of Australia and America’s greatest composers for the voice, In the Shadow of Eden is an evening sure to delight both afficionados and casual listeners alike.

Program: Barber – Knoxville: Summer of 1915; Glanville-Hicks – 13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird; Heggie – Eve-song; Miller-Heidke/Grandage – Where? From the Rabbits.
